The research group "Diversity of Sexual and Gender Identities" focuses on the epidemiology, pathogenesis and neurobiology of mental health in people belonging to a marginalised sexual and gender minority. This includes sexual orientation (for example, homosexuality, pan- or bisexuality) as well as gender identity. A special focus here is on the group of people who identify themselves with terms such as trans* or non-binary. Taking into account societal, medical and social marginalization and discrimination processes the work of our interdisciplinary research group aims at an improved understanding of the development and maintenance of stress-related diseases and related resilience factors. Furthermore, we want to contribute to an improved health care of this vulnerable group of people through the development and community-based implementation of psychiatric-psychotherapeutic treatment services. We pursue a transdisciplinary research and work approach, in which we closely cooperate with university partners from various disciplines as well as stakeholders from the LGBTIQ* community and other social areas.
